would my insurance company still take the claim? or am i on my own?

No they will NOT cover it, and it would be illegal for you to try and claim the incident with them.

Your insurance company won't do anything for that claim. That would be losing money on their part.

You are on your own if you did not have insurance on the day of the accident.Sorry.

Sorry pal, you are on your own. If you read your policy, there will be an exclusion for claims arising before the policy period.
