You get your first one at about 8 weeks
You usually get 2, each insurance is different
The sex is determined at about 20 weeks
There's are no risks that I have ever heard of with ultra sounds. If it was harmful dr's wouldn't do it and would certainly diclose that informaton before performing an ultra sound.

They are still doing studies on the effects of ultrasound on babies in utero, so I think it's best not to risk unless you have a medical reason for getting an ultrasound.
A lot of people say they are "harmless" but that is not true at all. Every medical procedure carries with it some risk, and that includes ultrasound. Maybe it's not as risky as amniocentesis, but it still poses some threat.
The American College of Gyne and Obstetrics says "casual use of ultrasonography, especially during pregnancy, should be avoided."
So if you don't have a medical reason, that would be "casual use."
Using ultrasound to check "viability" is not warranted. You can listen to the baby's heartbeat.
Using ultrasound to "date a pregnancy" is not warranted either b/c most women know about when they conceived, and even if they don't ultrasound is NOT an exact science and gives many women a false gestational age.
Using ultrasound to determine gender is also not warranted b/c that has nothing to do with the health of the baby. You are paying hundreds of dollars and exposing your baby to ultrasound waves simply so you can see whether it's a boy or girl?
And ultrasounds are often wrong about the baby's sex.
So why are they done routinely? Three reasons - mothers want them, doctors want the information and hospitals want the money.
Antibiotics are over prescribed for the same reason. People ask their doctors for them, doctors want people to feel better and pharmacies get the profits.

You can get one in your first trimester if you are need or want it (mostly for higher risk) - most people get one around 18-20 weeks - it is at that ultrasound that you can find out the sex of the baby (if he or she cooperates!) There is no data to support the claim that an ultrasound is harmful to the baby or to you. Good luck with the pregnancy.

you get your 1st ultrasound around the 5th month.your Inc will only pay for one in less there would be something wrong with the Baby.you can see the sex of the baby when you are 5 month if the baby corporates. No getting a ultra sound does not have any risks .it is safe for you and the Baby. The ultra sound is called a wand they put jelly on it and it is a bit cold and then they put it on your Bell and you will see your baby on a monitor. You have to have a full bladder when you go in to have one.You will get pictures of your baby when they are all done.Good Luck

You have to be about 19 weeks before they can see the sex. Sometimes in high risk pregnancies they do them more frequently. It won't harm the baby. There is not radiation involved like with an x-ray.

depends on your dr. mine did a vaginal ultrasound at first check up (for both kids) - you can hear heartbeat right away. usually then do one at about 12-16 weeks. Sex of child is evident at 16 weeks.
Unless there are questions or problems, i think they only do one more toward the end of pregnancy. I had some problems with my pregnancy so, i had one every three weeks for the first 2 tri-mesters with my daughter and then every two weeks and then every week for the last month. It did not cause any problems for me or baby. but, who knows..... i went full term and she only weighed 5'1. maybe all the ultra sounds had something to do with that. She is perfect though... no other evident complications because of ultra sounds.

depends on the doctor and insurance (some do one at first appointment and second trimester, and some only do one in the second trimester)
generally you only get one, sometimes two unless there are problems then more
i think you can tell the babies gender at around 16 weeks i think it is (but i might be wrong)
there is no proof that the ultrasound is unsafe for baby or mother.

2.- about 4
3.- we knew he was he in his 4 month, knew she was she in her 3d. month
4.- never was a risk..they are safe
5.- no harm at all, for mother and baby....
The most important thing is that you are sure nothing wrong is happening to your baby..or you...

they give you one at around 18 weeks and thats when they can tell what ur having. they generally give you only one,but it also depends on what insurance you have. no it doesnt harm the baby or you, if it did they wouldn't allow it to take place.
