I'm growing sago palms myself. These can be quite expensive, so it's important to care for them properly. After a few years, you can be having free sago "babies" or pups.

One of the most important things to remember is to plant the sago at the correct depth. Be sure to plant it in the ground at the same level the trunk is in the pot. DO NOT place the entire trunk of the sago in the ground. It will not grow, and eventually rot. If you don't put enough trunk into the ground, the roots will not take and it will die, as well. A good rule of thumb is to leave about half the trunk above ground.
