Taller tires will have the same effect as a slightly higher gear ratio which would (in theory at least) increase fuel mileage, and make the speedometer read incorrectly.

Wider tires may increase fuel consumption somewhat due to drag and friction.

extremely large tires will affect your fuel consumption as well as putting more strain on the cars suspension system. More unspruing weight.
Depending on the car, if you have slightly larger tires you would increase the rear end ratio or equivalent in a front drive car. the effect of this would be to reduce the engine rpms at a cruise speed. This should effectivly improve gas mileage. Be aware, however that changing from the standard tire size at all will make your speedometer be out of calibration. You could be reading 65 and actually doing 72 I got a ticket because of this one time. Larrup

No. Usually, your car gets the best gas mileage with the tires it comes with inflated at the manufacturer's recommendation.

actually you would get better gas mileage since you would be able to maintain the same speed at a lower rpm. The difference would be nearly unnoticeable though.

absolutely, as it would add up to friction and weight of your car.

not to mention heavy steering (well of course if your car doesnt have power steering)

wait... are you talking of a bigger tire radius or wider tire with the same radius.

if you go for a wider tire with the same radius then my answer would apply
