7z^2 -z - 8 factors into (7z -8) (z+1)

Use the foil (first, outer, inner, last) method to test the answer.

(7z -8) (z+1) = first (7z x z)+ outer (7z x 1) + inner (-8 x z) +

last (-8 x 1) = 7z^2 + 7z - 8z - 8

simplify by adding/subtracting like terms

7z^2 + 7z - 8z - 8 = 7z^2 - z - 8
