Everytime I have been there, they have been vigoriously checking keys. Not only looking for them but actually verifying they were valid. MB and Bellagio have the strongest pool security in Vegas. If you want a nice pool with easy access, try the Flamingo.

Look, each of these hotels have between 2 and 4 thousand rooms in them and there are like two dozen hotels on the Strip. Can you imagine if everyone showed up at the Mandalay Bay pool at the same time? These hotels are not in the pool business; the pools are only there to attract customers to the hotel. You have the use of whatever pool facilities you hotel has and that is as it should be and that is how it is at any hotel. If you like a good pool and are on a budget there are plenty of choices. Monte Carlo has 4 pools including wave pool and a lazy river. The Rio has three including one with a sand beach and waterfall and another for serious swimmers and a shallow wading pool. Always bring a few bucks with you to tip the people who find you a seat and towel. *

The pools are for hotel guests only. The "lifeguards" get really pissy if they find out you aren't a guest and snuck in anyway.

Also, if you're going to Mandalay Bay pool, each guest must possess a Mandaly Bay room key. ie. if there's three of you, you must show three keys. If you're staying at Four Seasons you must only show one key per group to enter Mandalay Bay's pool.

It's for guests only. You can pay to go to the beach concerts but can't go swimming.

Guests only. You can go to ebay and get a room key, sometimes they just look at them, sometimes they actually scan them to see if you really are staying there. They will just tell you to leave if you get caught.
