Star Trek would be my guess. It was the first of its kind, a veiled attempt to show the prejudice, injustice and avarice of humans, without being in your face about it. Some of the devices made up on the show have become reality now (cell phones, for one). Space exploration had not been a viable option then but it's become so common now, not many pay any attention to shuttles and space stations anymore--almost as though we believe that what the Enterprise crew could do, we could do. The idea that different races, creatures, and countries of origin could work together helped in the civil rights movement. And for the first time, aliens were presented as more than drones intent on world domination. Most simply wanted to be allowed to live as they wished--a desire we all have.

According to most people, star trek has probally had the most effect on the world of any TV show. The idealistic ideas in Star Trek were so revolutionairy it spawned 10 movies and 3 4 spinoffs.
While star Wars is good, it is purely about war. Star Trek main objective wasn't covering war, it was about going where no man had gone before.

Actually both are a major impact on culture. star Trek for the advancements of science and communication of technology from the flip top cell phone to the hypospray and deflector shield, and the idealogy of a better future for everyone.
Star Wars for the belief that for every struggle againest depression and or repression, good will suceed in the end if you're heart is in the right place. The basic fight between the small person againest the government. As in " One man can make a difference"

I always been a Star Trek fan but not obsessed with it. I'm not a follower of the conventions, etc.....but enjoyed the stories....I know almost nothing about Star Wars.....nothing against it, just never followed it. I would have to say that Star Wars has probably the biggest impact over Star Trek. Just my opinion

Star Trek:
Gene Rodenberry always worked with the scientists of the time to discuss current technology, what was being worked on for the future and their ideas of possibilities.
There are many technologies today because fans of the show wanted to be an engineer like Scotty or a doctor like McCoy. There are many astrounuts in the space program today because of Star Trek or their favorite character. There was a 2 hour program called the technology of Star Trek where scientists are working on technology they saw in Star Trek and have grants and worked dedicated to making it come true

In my opinion, Star Trek, because without it there may not have been Star Wars as we know it. It (Star Trek)was also a way for the writers to tackle sensitive topics of the day. Examples: A Black woman in a leadership position. Accepting others despite their differences. They could not have had those types of topics in a modern day setting at the time. Early 1960's

Star Wars changed movies forever. Say bye to the cheesy sci-fi of the past here comes an epic. Also it was innovative in its film score that had recurring themes throughout the movies. I go far enough the say the original trilogy was the best movie series of the 20th century
