everytime I go out i find that the only way i can dance is if I am drunk enough to not care and even then I usually suck. I'll start dancing for a couple minutes, but then I begin to feel awkward and just end up giving up. Are there any tricks or fail safe techniques or moves to get around this awkwardness, or is it just a fact of life... any suggestions appreciated.

First, nobody really looks at you or cares what you look like when you dance. They are a lot more interested in their own selves. No reason to be all that self-concious.
Second, get some dance training. It will give you both confidence and new moves.
Third, get it out of your head that white men can't dance. If you think you'll fail, you increase your chance of failure. And realy, what would you count as failure or succes in this case? I'd say, the only way to truly fail is to give up and step off the floor.

To be honest most people cant dance well. I reckon you are talking about dancing in a club or something similar. If this is the case try practising infront of a mirror to similar music where you will have no inhibitions or worries and so you can see what looks good and what doesnt. Chances are, if it looks good to you then it is good. Not only with this improve your confidence because you know you have put effort into it and you know if you were watching yourself dance it would look good. Once you find moves that look good vary the movements to find other good looking movements and just keep repeating them on the dancefloor.

Dancing may be harder for White men but anyone can be taught. I'm good at it but I had to learn at the beginning, too. First find some one who knows how to dance to teach you. Next practice a lot. Limit yourself to basic, comfortable moves and then go out and try it. It's critical to be self confident. Most of the people looking at you are not any better than you so don't sweat'em.

PS: Don't get drunk and try to dance, you WILL look stupid!

Learn to dance. It's amazing what a little professional training will do, and a bit over-optimistic to think you can just go out there and wing it successfully. You can get to a certain level just with do-it-yourself projects and tricks, but with training you can be one of the best in a club. And you'll need to limit the alcohol then.

Tommorrow -Wednesday on ch. 32 at 7:00pm Central time you could watch "So you think U could dance?" I guarantee you'll be dancing before you know it for more than 5 mins.

Chances are you don't look any goofier than those who are dancing around you. Just have fun!
