My tail light on my 1991 GMC Jimmy S-15 doesn't work @ night. The Brake and Turning light work. The Tail light alone when The headlights are turned on doesn't work. I can still drive during the day, but not at night. Does anybody have suggestions what it could be? I'm open to possibilities. Thank You.

More Details: I don't have problems driving it during the day time hours cause I don't have to turn on the headlights. The issue is at night only. Like I said before, the blinker and stop work, but the tail light itself isn't on. I have changed all the bulbs, changed the socket (where you connect the bulb into) twice (once from the Manufacturer ((very expensive)) and one from the junk yard ((from the same year and model)).

Check the park lamp fuse also replace one of the rear bulbs and see if the park light works.I have seen both park lamps burnned out and stop and turn work ok.

the best (and simplest) bet is that it's a bad bulb. there are two filaments in your taillight bulb. one is bright and used for turn signals and brake lights, and the other is slightly less bright and used for the running lights...

If it is only one taillight it would be the bulb. If both check the fuse then wires.

It's either a fuse problem or a problem in the wiring harness near the taillights.

do your dash lights work? if not then you have a blown tail light fuse, if they work you most likely have a bad bulb or worst case a broken wire.

so, isnt it broken at all times, just not an issue during daylight hours?
