Of course it had to be the 3 days in July, 1863, the valor, courage, blunders, and near misses all added up to an intriguing battle.

Since I am not eligible for Best Answer, I thought I would add my two cents worth for the "coolest battles from a guy's point of view" here:

Shiloh (April 6,7 - 1862)
Read Wiley Sword's 'Shiloh Bloody Shiloh' and tell me it was not cool to have your back to the Tennesse River while three waves of Rebels come at you, you see the elephant for the first time, and all the time you are wondering where Lew Wallace is, and if Don Carlos Buell will make in time!

Sherman's March; hands down. I'm a girl, but I'm a history major. All those miles of destruction and pillaging.... If you want a more thorough supply of information Wikipedia should be able to provide you with it.

wouldn't consider any battle cool. However, Shiloh turned Grant's opinion about how long the Civil War would last.
