Wrong.
I once ran the numbers on this. In order for Perot's candidacy to have changed the outcome of the election, the Perot voters would have had to voted for Bush in a 4 to 1 margin, even assuming they would have all voted.
Personally, I think that if Perot had not been a candidate, the overwhelming majority would have not voted at all. I can assure you that this was what the Perot voters in my own family claim they would have done. That would have further increased that ratio.
No, in the final analysis, I don't think Perot changed the outcome. I don't even think it mattered that it was Clinton, the Democrat candidate won the day that Bush reneged on his "read my lips, no new taxes" pledge.

Are you asking us whether or not Clinton and his allies persuaded Perot to run because Clinton wanted the Republican vote to split? If that is what you mean, then my answer is no, I don't think so. I think Perot ran because he wanted to, I don't think of him as the puppet of Clinton. And furthermore, I am a long way from being convinced that Bush would have been re-elected if Perot hadn't run.

Say what???? Mr. Perot ran on his own. If anything he was disgusted with the way things were going under Republicans and wanted a serious change. Perot didn't get enough votes to make much of a difference anyway.

Clinton was already leading Bush in the polls even before Perot resurrected his campaign. (You may or may not remember that Perot briefly dropped out during the late summer.)
Clinton won Montana in '92 (can you believe that?), but I think that's probably the only state that tipped into his favor due to Perot's candidacy.

Who is Ross Perot? Oh yes. that dude that made America aware of the ballooning trade deficit of which the Republicans were trying to hide under the table. I am glad he ran because Republicans are genuinely fiscally irresponsible.

Perot is the only reason Clinton won. Just watch if there is a third party candidate that is more left than right the media will go into overdrive to disinform the public and discredit the candidate.
