If by "civil war" your class teacher means "The American Civil War", you will want to go on Ebay and get the least expensive antiques you can find from that era. I know for a fact that confederate dollar bills are so plentifull, that they can be had for cheap. Also, the so called "mini balls" that were the lead bullets of the time, are also plentifull, and thus cheap. Ebay should be full of such things. If, however, the instructors' reference could be streached to include the civil war in Iraq, you will, I'm sure be able to assemble something of much deeper relevence to you. Start, by housing in a box, copies of letters, and pictures you have recieved from your fiance, while he has been at war, along with personal affects of his, that are around the house. Include anything that will fit in the box, that is military in nature. This is YOUR civil war. This would be YOUR memory box

ooo, how sweet, really.

most of the women on the homefront during the civil war had a very hard time. they were often isolated from others and pulling lots of extra work.

quilting and embroidery were past times, as was writing letters. if you decided to do something very nostalgic, you could use:

old lace
tea stained stationary
confederate/union propoganda
old buttons, bits of fabric
calendar created to resemble one from that period

research what women did abck then. They often helped toward the war effort by sewing quilts, wrapping bandages and cooking for the troops. you may wish to include somethings that indicate these activities.
