Why would Russia even WANT to threaten Europe with missiles?

Its a reaction to what we're doing with regards to them.

Not many Americans are aware of this, but in the last years of Clinton's administration and all throughout Bush's, we've been starting a new arms race with China and Russia. We've been installing missile defence systems in Poland and the Czech Republic lately and Putin is right to be worried as hell. Our governments excuse is "its because of Iran", which is bullsh*t, and everyone knows it. We could have ONE Trident submarine in the Persian Gulf and completely level ALL of Iran and send them back to the Stone Age in minutes. These missile defence systems are being put in place as part of the arms race we're starting with Russia. We signed a pledge to begin to bring down our numbers of nukes, and we're not following up on it! We're actually EXPANDING our nuclear arsenal. We have so many nukes we could nuke everyone on the planet several times over! Putin and the Russians are worried as hell over all this! And understandably so!

The Bush administration in particular has an obsession with continuing a cold-war policy in a post-cold war world. It make no sense, and of course the Russians feel threatened! Its only logical!

We're venturing into dark, murky TERROR-ity called Soviet politics. Logically, I'd have to guess that given the recnet step-down of Britan's Tony Blair, coupled with the stretching U.S. military resources in the desert dustbowl of Iraq, Putin is outright challenging Bush--wanting to see for himself how strong (or weak) our U.S. President really is.

And given Bush's track record as an effective leader, this can prove dangerous. Let's face it: Bush ain't NO Regan, by any imagination's stretch---and he likely doesn't know near as much as say....dear ol' dad does.....about such political cronies like Putin.

Well....Junior better bone up fast on international politics and come up with (for once in his Presidency) a pretty good plan, free of ineptness. After all: Putin isn't no Osama or Saddam.

You are missing the point.
Russia and China are escalating their missile technology BECAUSE the United States escalated their Missile "Defense" program by bringing it to Eastern Europe.
The populations of Poland and the Czech Republic are against this escalation but their leaders are subservient to U.S. Foreign Policy.

"Grateful..."- thanks for the info...awesome post!
