I am moving to a state where concealed carry is legal and fairly easy to get. I believe it is my right to protect myself and my family. I currently reside in NJ and I can not even carry pepper spray here. If a guy kicks in my front door and hurts my children and I shoot the ******, I go to jail. How is that justice? I think trigger locks are useless for the most part (I can still fire my double barrel with a trigger lock on it), the waiting periods are eh...more of an inconvenience than anything...for example, a pistol was on sale at a local dealer a few weeks ago and I couldn't get it because of a waiting period on my pistol permit. I agree that we should have background checks, and I am pretty ok with the system we have now with the Federal Firearms License, Class III, etc., though I hate how long it takes to get these permits, but again- I understand the logic behind them. You do miss a point, though...there is a black market in this country and the restrictions you want are not placed on criminals who utilize that market! And despite the fact that every now and then some crazy person who may have guns legally goes insane and shoots up a place, it would not happen if everyone had a gun. If someone had a gun at Virginia Tech that guy might not have killed so many people, likewise at the place in NY today.

There are thousands of gun control laws on the books not currently enforced. Will more make a difference?

Strict gun laws have failed to keep Washington D.C. safe. Crime has risen in England and Australia due to their laws, why would it work here?

The Constitution says we the people have the "Right" to own and bear them. The Constitution spells out RIGHTS for the people; it details RESPONSIBILITIES for government bodies. It does not anywhere provide for a governmental right. Each of the more than 50 times the word "Right" is used, it refers to the individual, not to the collective or society or any governing body. This right was put there to prevent politicians from taking away our other rights. If you don't like the Constitution or its amendments, why don't you try to change it rather than disregard it?

Is registration reasonable?

Not sure if this is along the right path - but it might help you.

They want to try and make it legal for you to take guns on college campuses - but only keep them in your car.
Which could be safe; however - what if someone comes in your class and holds a gun - are you going to say " Hold on, wait - I have my gun in my car??" That isnt really helpful for it to be in your car.
I think if take safety courses and are respectful you should have it on you.

okay who are we controling guns from? The people who will actually obey the law will not have guns to protect themselves, and the people who do not obey the law will, cause they will find away to get ahold of a gun.
