The first answer is pretty good, though I'd suggest lower pay for people with bachelor's degrees these days (upper $20's to low $30's), with little room for growth.

Folks with earned doctorates can start in the low $40,000 range in academia, but will earn more in industry if they've established a proven track record.

Those $100,000+ salaries are for the top 1% of folks with doctorates, years of extraordinary accomplishments (grants, publications, etc.), and the people skills necessary to succeed. No one at my institution earns close to that.

It depends on your level of education, amount of experience, and the part of the country. I'd say anywhere from $30,000 fresh out of college with a BS in a lower-paying city, up to over $100,000 with over 10 years experience and a PhD if you manage a department of less qualified molecular biologists
