For example, one who is single, as opposed to someone who has a boyfriend/girlfriend, as opposed to one who is married, as opposed to one who is married with children?
Are singles taken advantage of?

I can't say that I have ever felt like my singleness was being taken advantage of at any of the jobs I have had, but I have heard about it happening in workplaces that are open on holidays. A lot of times, the ones in charge will want to make the single people work on the holiday while giving the ones with significant others and/or children the day off or at the very least preferable hours on that day. They seem to think that the single people don't have any relatives or friends they would like to see on those special days. Oh well.

Depends on the job.

If I were an employer hiring people for hazardous jobs (underwater welding, etc.) I would prefer single people...that way if they got killed no wife or kids would suffer.

If were hiring a bookeeper then I might want a married person due to increased stability.

As for singles gettin taken advantage of....I don't think so. It ain't like they wouldn't know the job carried the hazard.

I think that people who have families (kids) are percieved to be more reliable. because employers think they are more responsible. i think that single people are more taken advantage of because they don't have anyone to be home for. also i have noticed that people with boyfriends and girlfriends are treated the same as single people. married people WITH kids are treated different. when a person with kids can't come to work no one says anything, but if someone without kids can't come in, people are like i bet they just don't want to work, there's no emergency

I believe that it goes both ways, there firms or buisnesses out there that sympathize with a family man/woman, but there are also places that prefer a single person so that they know that person will be able to devote more time and effort to the cause.
