You have two choices in this matter first is Giancarlo Bellingrath, he set the world record (12 minutes and 47 seconds) July 17 2003, but, he breathed in 100% pure oxygen before his attempt and as such is not recognized by the free diving community one the other hand Tom Sietas who held his breath for 8 minutes and 58 seconds.

Upwards of eight minutes... think Navy Seals, who have to have to hold their breath for 5 minutes under water.
