I have tried it and its not a bad car but its not a great car either. Buy it because you can get a real good price on it with a nice low interest financing.
Its the kinda car that does everything okay but it's hard to find something it can do exceptionnaly well.
When you try it, make sure you like the seats and find them comfortable. They lack support and feel cheap.
The interior is nice looking but the fit and finish is just okay.
with the standard engine, acceleration is very average.
The tires also are not high quality, I found them noisy and if you like to drive in a sporty manner, you'll find them not very sticky.
Like I said, it's not a bad car, it's just very hard to find places where it really stands out.
When you try it, make sure to also try a Mazda 3 and a Honda Civic. Even if you are not in love with those cars, you will maybe see the difference and see why I say the Cobalt is average.
Good luck in your car shopping

The Cobalt is a really good car. I have owned one now for a year and a half and have no problems with it but one recall that Chevrolet fixed right away. The Cobalt get 25 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway. The trunk space is remarkable except the trunk opening could be a little bigger. The leg room in the back is not to great but is really good in the front. The 2007 verison comes with and MP3 port and so do some of the 2006's if asked for. The car is great all around and has an excellant ride. I would reccomend the Cobalt anyday.

I have a black 2006 Chevy Cobalt. tinted windows, sunroof, spoiler etc. and I love it. However, when I was shopping around I saw Cobalts that "gave all cobalts a bad name". It had no power anything since I had that all on my last car I wasn't going to "step backwords". Anyways so when I went to this particular dealer with new and used cars we had looked at many cars and since black is my favorite color I half jokingly said do you have anything in black? He said yeah I have a Cobalt over here. I was VERY hesitant since I had seen one before and wasn't impressed by the least. So we walked over there and I saw the car it's an SS by the way. I was like "SWEETTTTT!! SUNROOF, TINTED WINDOWS, SPOILER and when we test drove it even better!! Great gas mileage too I average 31 mpg city/hwy combined. So check your options and opt for an SS or an SS turbo.

I have one sitting in my driveway as we speak, rented until my wife's car is repaired. (never mind how it was damaged)
All I can say is, this thing scoots away from a light like a German sports car, and gets 41 MPG on the freeway. Very impressive!
The crank up windows are a pain in the *** though

I have a 2006 Cobalt, and I'm not impressed at all with the available options, I just looked at a VW Golf, a Honda Accord, and a Toyota Camry and all have more available options stock than the cobalt. Sure I guess they're ok if you don't care about the stereo system, cruise control, and other features like that, but I mean for $15,000 (with taxes, and everything else added on) I shouldn't have manual windows, manual locks, and a stereo that won't play MP3 CDs.
The rear seat don't have much room, I wouldn't put adults back there as they would be pretty cramped. The trunk opening is way to small (used to my Ford Tempo which had a huge trunk opening).
Occasionally reverse is hard to engage, and usually resorts to grinding into gear, same with first gear.
Fuel gauge sometimes doesn't register any fuel being in the tank, it stays on empty.
Personally I would go look at something else besides a Cobalt.

I think I should point out that the 100k mile warranty is powertrain only, the bumper-to-bumper is 3 years/36k miles which ever comes first. GM cars are a little spend for their quality, at least when it comes to Chevy. Personally, I think you can find a better vehicle for your money.

cobalts are a beater car made by Chevy they replaced the cavalier which was a beater car also if your not a led foot then the car is good for you but if u don't like going to the service shop every 2 months id buy something different and back to the beater car thing dodges is the neon Toyota is the civic which you dont really want to invest your money in eather but if you are going to buy one make sure you get a background check on the car because allot of high school students have them then sell them and they like to hot rod in them and also have a professional mechanic look it over before you buy it also
