If burnt or flared, it doesn't because natural gas is made up mostly of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. When used properly though, it can burn cleaner than oil or coal, the other two fossil fuels. But natural gas cannot possibly keep CO2 out of the air because CO2 is sent into the air every time we exhale and without CO2, plants would die and animals including Man, would die as a result.

Why would you think that it does?

Natural gas, by itself, has no influence on the amount of CO and CO2 in the air. If you burn natural gas, then you increase the amount of CO2 and maybe CO, depending on how efficiently you burn it. But it certainly won't decrease the CO and CO2.
