There is no rush to introduce solids to your baby. Especially under 6 months, solids are not nutritionally needed. I suggest that you wait 2-3 more weeks and give it another try. Because he is spitting the food out, my best guess is that his natural "tongue-thrust" reflex is still quite active and he will need a little time for that reflex to subside. When you do try again, offer him a very thinly made mixture of infant rice cereal mixed with breast milk, formula, or water. Make sure he is sitting just a little reclined so the force of gravity will help the runny cereal go down. Try when he is in a good mood, not too hungry. He may only tolerate a spoonful or two at first and that is fine. Some babies just aren't ready to try solids until they are a little older and that is OK, too.

I think he's trying to tell you that he's not ready. He's not even 6 months yet - too young for solids. Wait until he shows all of the signs of readiness for solids:
* Baby can sit up well without support.
* Baby has lost the tongue-thrust reflex and does not automatically push solids out of his mouth with his tongue.
* Baby is ready and willing to chew.
* Baby is developing a “pincer” grasp, where he picks up food or other objects between thumb and forefinger. Using the fingers and scraping the food into the palm of the hand (palmar grasp) does not substitute for pincer grasp development.
* Baby is eager to participate in mealtime and may try to grab food and put it in his mouth.
He will be ready sometime in the next few months, but don't rush him. Wait until he reaches the 6 month mark and has reached all of the milestones then try again.

Like others have said, don't rush it! The AAP recommends waiting at least 6 months... that's still a couple weeks away. ;)
Personally, I waited until my babies had some teeth and were showing signs of needing solids, at 10-11 months. They still didn't really take off on solid foods, and it was closer to a year before they wanted to eat much. There's no rush! :)

don't rush it, he may not be ready.
Try him 1 hour after milk.
start of simple - farax, rice cerial. He will only eat a teaspoon.
Remember at this stage he is not eating for nutrition, just for practice. Milk will be his main food until 10 -11 months.
few days - one week of rice cerial.
one week of pureed and watery potatoes.
one week of pureed and watery pumpkin.
Remember home cooked is best at this stage.
Babies tasteis very sensitive, so ensure the food is bland.
One meal for 2 - 3 weeks. Slowly work up to 2 meals (when he is eating 5 - 6 ice cubes a sitting) and then in a few weeks move on to 3 meals.
He should have milk, then wait an hour, then solids.
Good Luck!

At six months some infants have not lost the thrust reflex and that is why he may not be eating. If he is gaining weight and is staying relatively satisfied for 3 hours then I would not stress yourself or your babe right now. Give it a week or two and try again. If its still a no go relax and wait a week or two again. The most important thing is to make sure he is maintaining his weight and gaining weight at a nice steady rate and is getting enough milk. I will reiterate what another poster said. If you are breast feeding he is getting exactly what he needs.

Maybe try a different brand. If you've tried it at room temperature, try warming it up a bit. Be sure to stir really good and check the temperature before giving it to baby (which I'm sure you would've done anyways). My baby spit out the food for about a week and soon enough, she scarfs down everything now... except green beans.... Anyways, good luck! Hope this helps!

Give him time, that's still early to have "tried and tried", by my standards. I'm not one to push solids too early. If you're breastfeeding, you're giving your son ALL he needs for the first year of life. Solids would just be practice. My daughter wasn't interested in solids until she was 10 or 11 months old. Just give him time, he'll eat when he's ready. Good luck~

SOme kids just go straight to big people foods without a stop at the jarred stuff. One of mine was that way. I got a little gadget that you'd put the mac and cheese or veggies into and turn it unti it minced up the food into tiny pieces he could handle. that worked on a lot of foods.
You could also give him stuff off yor plate like mashed potatoes. I remember i was afraid to give mine solid foods at all at first. I gave them green peas because they were soft and mushy (canned) and they liked to pick them up on their own and feed themselves. Kix cereal and cheerios were good starters too if you think he is old enough and ready for that texture.
Good luck and God bless. Enjoy these little struggles-they grow up so fast...
