No.

You must receive it by your next pay period though.

if you're fired, they have 72 hours to produce your check.

That's the law.

You are entitled to your final paycheck on the same day your would normally be paid for your last day. Your employer can't reasonably be expected to know how many hours you should be paid for until you have finished working your last day. They can't reasonably be expected to process your final check while you stand there waiting either.

If the law is different, it is a bad law.

i dunno about last paycheck on your last day as some places have direct deposit & it is done by computers with "auto pilot" attached to their "on" switch. payroll & giving two weeks notice are two different depts. check with your company. if it is a govt job, the answer may not be favorable to you. is there a california law that states this is a fact? not to my knowledge but the standards & practices of the work place is written down in black & white (so to speak) . not only what employers can & can't do but also it is written what the employee (you) can & can't do. you know - it's not all your side. check it out. all states place them for public viewing. check your job-site. since cali is one of the almighty 50.... also keep in mind, the last day you work is a 'pay day'. now how is the employer going to know how many hours you are going to put in on the job, time in between paychecks, etc. really now! aren't we being a wee bit silly?

Check with your state Labor Dept. But I know in WI, you have to wait the pay period, and you are issued your last check along with every other employee that is still employed by the company. Basically, you wait the time for the final check until it would normally be paid out.

They will pay you on the scheduled payday.
I know it sucks going to pick up that check, every body looks at you like you, like what the hell.
In the past I have dress up real nice and Act like I have a really great job and that I'm better than all them.
It makes it a little more fun to pick up that last check.

You will get paid on the day you usually get paid.....

Say if you get paid on a Monday, and your last day is Friday, you will get paid on Monday for that week you worked!

Make sure you get all your holiday pay etc.!

No. You get paid the same day as everybody else unless you and them have some kind of agreement.
