Hubby cut off several of the lower branches in the past couple years and didn't put tar on the cuts. The whole tree looks dead now with tons of full pinecones on the branches that look dead and the branches seem to be very dry on the ends I can get to, but here and there over the branches are these green small and medium tight cones which I'm sure are the new cones coming in. The tree has to be about 100 years old, or at least 50 years. It was huge already when I got here about 20 years ago. Does anyone know if there is a "resting" period for pine trees? Thanks, Sandy

Pines tend to overproduce seed cones when stressed, in order to procreate their species. Sadly, a sign of demise. Save some seeds! Observe the Law of Abundance, that tree isn't makin just one seed.....

Just a little something my uncle, the forester, taught me while out surveying. Sorry for you loss.

he'd should of put some prunning patch on the several areas after trimming those Tree Branches off during the Fall season
but must wait until next Spring "

I dont know if there is a resting period but when you do trim a tree it does encourage new growth.
