I had (what I consider) a magical childhood. On weekends, my sister and I would go down to the creek and catch tadpoles, we also used our imaginations and were always outside having some wild and wonderful adventure.

Dad would turn the generator on around dusk, so we had electricity (we lived waaayyy out in the bush) and so, television was a treat at the end of the day....we would watch, "The Wonderful World of Disney."

I loved the way we were brought up....it's my wish to bring my boy up in a similar way, someday soon.

My parents spent time with me. We had a close relationship, and we were always laughing and joking. We also used to take a lot of family vacations throughout the year. Most of the time we'd drive in the car or rent an RV. Singing as we went, just taking in the atmosphere.

Unfortunately most children of today don't look at that as being a good thing. They're trying to get as far away from their parents as possible. It's such a shame. They'll look back and regret all the time wasted . . .

I grew up in a very wealthy family. I had horses, went to private school, drove a Triumph TR6 and had everything I could want (except loving, caring parents). Kids envy the "stuff". They don't really care what's going on behind the scenes. BTW, you ask the best questions!

When my brother was born, my parents basically left me alone. Like other kids, I fumed, I threw tantrums, and I resented them. At some point I decided that I would give up waiting for them to see that I was still here. Instead of turning emo or something I channeled my anger into motivation for schoolwork. It paid off because I became an honors student for 6 years and was top of the class in 3.

I had 2 parents, a nice home, never wanted for anything major in my life as my dad had a good income and paid all the bills...
I was never hurt or in the hospital or hungry, I always had school clothes and supplies, toys, and I was happy...
When I turned 16, and my dad died, everything changed for me and my mom forever...
But like I said, I had a great life growing up till then...

My parents tried to do a lot as a family. My parents also made us work for what we wanted as well. Not that a child would envy that...but as you get older you really apperciate that they force you to take care of yourself.

Even though both parents worked, they always had time for us kids.
We had picnics, family dinners, game time and Dad would even have time to watch cartoons with me.
We felt safe leaving our doors unlocked, going to the park or playground alone at night and walking to a friends house in the dark.

All the time we spent together as a family. Today, life is so busy that a lot of families can't even sit down and have dinner together much less do other things together. We are able to and I feel blessed because of it.

As a kiddo I could roam my neighborhood freely without worrying about what kind of freaks were stalking the area. That stuff never happened when I was little.

My dad built a fort/treehouse for my brother and I...at first he said it was a giant doghouse and he blocked off a whole section of our yard so we couldn't see, saying there were nails on the ground. Then, one day he let us see...it was about 375 sq. ft!!!!! It was HUGE...it had a drawbridge, a bay window, a secret side entrance, a door on hinges that you could lock...it was amazing. My brother and I were constantly fighting over who got to bring friends over and play in it.
