an estimate, your looking around £700 thats about $1500 US for a good one, because they need better parts, faster to load RAM better proccessors because they have more demands put on them and better parts are always more expensive

Generally yes. This is due to the fact a true media computer contains many things such as a good tv tuner, a pretty decent sound card so you can enjoy the stuff you are watching. Also media computers should be more powerful since you will be using programs and stuff that will enable you to record programs, maybe even edit and what not.

So for example, a lot of media comptuers come with tv tuners so you will not only be be able to watch the programs but also record it and rewatch it later if you get my drift. Like Carbonfrost Systems they have two models, Surfer and Reflect that I will use for a price example. The Surfer is your more regular desktop while the Reflect is a media comptuer meant for people like in college and what not.

In terms of price, the most expensive Surfer is about $525 and the least expensive Reflect is $675. But in that $150 you get bigger disk space, faster processor, a dual core processor so you can do multiple apps and also a tv tuner.

Shouldnt do as the parts are almost the same, I built a media center last week, it did cost a bit more than buying from Dell, but it had the right parts inside for what I needed to do.
