Most weed killers will state that once the product is dry, it is safe for pets and children to walk on.
I have applied many fertilizers for customers with pets, and have warned them to stay off while still wet.
All of them are still fine, pets included.
Good luck!

This is a bit of a longterm solution, but the best way to control weeds is to plant a ground cover that is effective at crowding them out (the great american lawn is not always one of them). There are a lot of choices. I have a lot of vinca and hardly any weeds grow where I have it planted. Those that do make it are easily removed by hand.
Where there is dirt, SOMETHING is going to grow.

I go out weekly with white vinegar and spray, I have a friend that uses corn gluten, both are harmless to animals, but you must be diligent with the repeat applications.
