I want to buy some board shorts (for the beach and pool; I dont surf) but they are very expensive and there isn't much variety. What is something else I can wear that has a good price and will be okay if gotten wet. Any ideas?

ooh since you mentioned that price was the problem, i saw these cute boardshorts at aeropostale on saturday. they had two colors- brown with aqua & white with blue. they were only 10$. so great deal.
but if you dont like boardshorts altogether, you can wear basketball shorts, but they are a bit uncomortable when wet, since they're heavy and will weigh you down.
You can also try Soffe shorts(they come in a lot of colors so you can easily buy one that matches your bathing suit). Soffe shorts are around $6, and you can get them at sporting good stores or places like Kohls.
Or you can just get athletic shorts in general. They aren't very expensive and match with just about anything.

try looking at the guy section for swim trunks! it is often muchhh cheaper and you can even find cute patterns sometimes haha

some longer athletic/sweat type pants will work
also bermudas have you checked roxy.com? they make cute stuff like that
