The inning is split into 2 parts, the top and the bottom.

In the top of the inning, the visiting team bats while the home team fields and the half of the inning ends when there are 3 outs.

Then, the bottom of the inning is played with the home team batting and the visiting team in the field until there are 3 outs.

There are 9 innings total but the bottom of the 9th is not always played. If the home team is winning at the end of the top of the 9th, there is no reason to play the last half of the inning. Also, if the home team pulls ahead in the bottom of the 9th, the inning ends immediately regardless of how many outs there are.

If the score is tied at the end of the 9th, the game goes into extra innings.

Generally with 3 outs. However, in the bottom of the 9th or subsequent inning, the inning and the game ends if the home team scores the run that wins the game. That can be with none, one or two out in the inning.

As soon as the third out in the bottom half is made. The next inning begins as soon as the last out of the previous inning is made.
