The pill is not 100% effective. There is always that slim chance every time. The only way to be 100% protected is to abstain from sex.

I got pregnant on the depo shot! Alot of people I know have gotten pregnant on the pill.... I have yet to hear an explaination (other then not taking it properly). However, some things are just fate. No birth control method is 100%, it was that 1 chance in 100,000! I considered it hitting the lottery!
Very Best Wishes!

Well I got pregnant while I was on the pill, plus my boyfriend and I used a condom.( It came off without us knowing) Like everyone is saying its not 100% effective. My doctor thinks that even though I was on the pill I might have needed a higher dose of estrogen. So that could be it.

I know that certain drugs such as antibiotics will decrease the efficacy of the pill. Tetracycline is one. I don't have a list of specific drugs but perhaps you could look online for those. I ought to know, the pill failed me when I was on tetracycline, he's 14 years old now!! At the time they didn't know that much about drug interactions with the pill. Good luck and be careful.

There are two reasons you can get pregnant while using the pill:
1. Skipping a dose
2. Breakthrough ovulation - which is basically ovulating despite the fact that you are taking medication to supress it. Life finds a way!

The "pill" is not 100 % , also as you mentioned, some medications, (antibiotics for one) will make the pill not work properly.

medications such as antibiotics can interfere with the pill's effectiveness, and there is always that 1% chance of getting pregnant while on the pill.

Well, of course, forgetting to take them. Also, birth control is less effective for overweight women (which is surprising.. most medications don't have this effect). But there is always that .01% non-effectiveness eh? I would say the mostly likely is forgetting to take a pill and not realizing it. No one is as careful as they think.
