I would like to connect wirelessly to the Internet in my bedroom through my D-Link/DSL modem which is in my brother's room. When I click in the DLink wireless icon, I am asked to key in a WEP/WPA key. What is this? And where can I get one? Also, most of the time I get a low connection and have to disconnect from the wireless. And what s Linksys?

Linksys is a manufacturer of networking equipment.

As for your low signal it could be caused by many things such as radios, phones and other electronics causing RF interference.

The WEP/WPA key is a security function in wireless networks that stop unwanted people from connecting to your wireless network and using it with out permission. To get the security key you will have to ask who ever setup the router or maybe even your brother.

WEP is an encryption method for the router and computer/laptop to talk. It prevented "hacking" into your router over a wireless connection. WPA2 is a more secure and if your router supports it then I would use it. WEP is the older and is crackable in a bout 10 secs. You can use a Pre-Shared Key (a password that you create) and put that on your laptop/computer and router to establish communication. Basically, WEP and WPA are encryptions and the key "unlocks" or allows communication. Hope this helps...
