Remember that when you have an equation, you can
always perform the same operation on both sides.
Start with 2y +8x = 96
2y + 8x - 8x = 96 - 8x (subtract 8x from both side)
2y = 96 - 8x
2y/2 = (96-8x)/2 (divide both sides by 2)
y = 48-4x
Alternatively:
2y + 8x = 96
(2y + 8x)/2 = 96/2 (divide both sides by 2)
y + 4x = 48
y + 4x - 4x = 48 - 4x (subtract 4x from both sides)
y = 48-4x

1) 2y + 8x = 96
2) 2y = 96 - 8x
3) y = (96 - 8x) /2
4) y = 48 - 4x
If you prefer the y = mx + b form, then
y = -4x + 48

i'm just learning this but here goes nothing...
2y+8x=96
-8x -8x
equals
2y=-8x+96
*1/2 *1/2
equals
y=(-8x+96)1/2
equals
y=-4x+48
... and there you go!!! Long way to do it, but... still effecient!!!
hope you learned how to do it!!! next time, ask your parents, though...
>_< ;-)

2y+8x=96
2y=96-8x
y=48-4x
y= -4x+48 (i just moved the -4x infront of the 48 to make it look nicer)
You have to get y by itself so:
1. subtract both sides by 8x to cancel it on the left side and move it to the right
2.now that you have y by itself you divide both sides by 2
3. and there is your answer
