you take the $49.50 times the sales tax percentage and there you go.
IE sales tax is 8% or .08.
49.50 x 8% = 3.96
Hope this helped.
Good luck.

What is the Rate of tax?
Is the tax included in the $49.50?
These questions must be answered before you can find the amount of tax.
Using a tax rate of 10%
Not included? Multiply the cost price by the tax rate.
eg 10% tax tax = 49.50 X 10% (ie .1)
therefore tax = $4.95
Tax included? Amount paid = cost price + tax
ie $49.50 = Cost price + (cost price X 10%)
ie 49.50 = 1.1 X cp
therefore cp = 49.50/1.1 = 45.00
tax is 49.50 - 45.00 = 4.50
You need to give all relevant information for people to answer questions. Not everyone has prices quoted as x+ tax. Here, tax is always included.

1) You have to have the rate of tax. Assuming 10%.
2) If 49.50 is the cost of the product, your sales tax is 49.50 x 10% = 49.50 x 0.1 = 4.95
3) If 49.50 is the total price paid inclusive of sales tax, divide 49.50 by 1.1 to get price of product. (49.50/1.1 = 45). Now subtract 45 from 49.50 to get your tax = 49.50 - 45 = 4.50

depends on how much the sales tax is. for example if sales tax is 7% Multiply 49.50x 1.07 and that will give you total price of the sale
