Goodfellas one of my favorite movies of all time, and Ive never been able to figure out how they knew Pesci was involved in Billy Batts getting killed.

Well...there were a lot of people in the bar earlier that evening who heard Billy Batts teasing Pesci about his "shoe shine boy" days...and they knew that Pesci really went ballistic about it. (Plus, they knew that Pesci was a loose cannon anyway, and liable to go off anytime about the least little thing...) So I suspect they didn't actually KNOW for certain...but just figured Pesci was the most likely suspect. (Keeping in mind, of course, that those Mafia guys never needed to know beyond doubt in order to act...)

I would say they figured that since the two characters had words in the bar that this was the most likely suspect in his "disapperance".
