I went today for a 4d Ultra sound and let me tell you it was VERY unsuccessful!! He claim that my baby was looking down with his hand in the way of the face. He made me drink cold water and even flip sides on the bed over and over and over....
I was sooo happy when I walked in the office and seen all the faces of babies and I cant even get ONE good picture of a BABY!

Any mothers out there had successful 4/d ultra sounds? and if so did you drink water before you went?

Well the good thing about this is that he is going to give me another ultra sound in the morning and I need to do something before this happen again!

I have had several 3d/4d scans due to some earlier complications and because my obgyn has an in-office sonographer and he uses a GE 3D/4D machine. So every ultrasound he will give me a b&w snap shot of the baby in 3d, so that I now have a little photo album full of them. But of course, at my 21 week scan, the one when they offer a dvd for $35 and a free color face shot, my baby would not cooperate. We were able to tell it was a boy, but he had his little fists in front of his face. One time, he started to stretch out and we got excited but he pulled it right back. And he was just sort of hugging the placenta, just kicking his little legs, but not enough movement to get footage for a dvd. I even drank a Dr. Pepper and a stick of dark chocolate before I went in, because other moms swore this would get the baby active. So I was rescheduled for another one at 23 weeks. I asked the sonographer what I could do, drink, or eat to get my baby to get moving for the next one. Well, he just sort of laughed and said to cross my fingers. So I went back for the next one at 23 weeks. The little bugger was again not very cooperative, but that time we finally got a good face shot. It is sort of a side-shot and it looks like he is smiling by the way his cheeks are kind of pulled back and you can see his eyebrows real well. Before that ultrasound, I just went about my normal business. I ate some frosted flakes and drank some milk. I took water with me just in case, although the sonographer said the cold drink thing doesn't make a difference on the baby's activity level as our body's temperaure warms the drink as soon as it passes through our mouth.
I wish you luck tomorrow. I hope you get a good shot. Let us know what happens.

I had a friend of mine that went to have the 4d ultra sound done but I couldn't make out anything on the ultrasound like they said the doctor could. It just wasn't a good picture at all but she was only 22 or 23 weeks at the time. I have no idea what you could do to get a good picture though... I know my sister always used to eat spicy foods or something that would make the baby move a lot or be hyper for a little while and maybe then you could get a good pic. GOOD LUCK and congrats on the new baby to be!

The same thing happened to me , and like yours , they made me come back a week later to try again. I had some ice cream before...anything cold supposedly helps to make the baby a little more active. Try to take notice in the things you eat that work , for my cousin it was a cold glass of milk , and like I said , for me it was ice cream. We got pretty good results the 2nd time around...about 20 very good pictures out of 100. Honestly though...she looked nothing like the pictures when she was born , lol. I wouldn't do it again , but I definitely understand why you want it.

Well I had a tumultuous pregnancy with my first, and so with the next two pregnancies I was deemed high risk. This meant that I was given an ultrasound at my WEEKLY appointment with the obgyn. All three of my children have turned out beautiful, healthy, and birth defect free after countless ultrasounds. Ultrasound therapy is actually used in physiotherapy treatments because of its many benefits.
I wouldn't feel guilty...
Also, I found that the fuller your bladder was, the easier it was to see through it when doing an ultrasound.
Another hint?
If you need to "reposition" the baby, try getting on all fours, lettling your belly "hang down" and GENTLY rock or sway back and forth...It worked for me, and I was told it was safe.

Good luck!

I'm 28 weeks and I've been getting 3d's throughout my pregnancy for medical reasons (about 6) to soothe the anxiety my Dr. gives me a snapshot, but there have been times (twice) where a picture wasn't possible because of the moving around, but seeing her on the screen is incredible! So, good luck tommorrow.....

I had a 3D/4D ultrasound and I was told to drink apple juice 30 min before to wake the baby up. Try that.

30 weeks is sometimes too far to do them; when i looked into them last year i was told the best time is 18-28 weeks. im not saying its not possible to get a good one done, i guess its just harder... try drinking some orange juice or mountain dew before you go, that will get baby moving! its good he offered another one; most reputable places will offer a second chance if baby doesnt cooperate the first time round!! good luck tmw, and congrats on the baby!!

I got mine at 28 weeks and it took them a while to get it. I didn't drink too much water but they did have me rolling all over the place trying to get a good pic

those ultra sounds are VERY touchy. the lady told me you basically have to get the baby to pose. mine came out decent, although he did have his hand like holding his cheek in one, and the other one looked like he was going to poke his eye out with his foot lol. but good luck tomorrow.

I was going to say, schedule another one! If you paid money for it, reschedule. They are the GREATEST things when they are done right!! SO COOL!

Good luck with your second try! I hope you get some good shots...
