beauhonkus... Your premise is false, as most Chickenhawks are... You see, unlike you, I don't believe the puppet dictator Shah was the best person to fulfill the nationalistic pride of the Iranians, and neither did the Iranian people... why do you think they threw him out.....? The US just doesn't make a good nation builder.

Having lived through the Carter years I'll take Bush over him any day. We had double-digit interest rates. Could you imagine buying a house at 13% interest rates?
The 1978 oil crisis was a Carter invention. OPEC had nothing to do with it. You are confused with the 1973 oil embargo.

Carter WAS responsible for long gas lines - artificial price controls resulted in shortages.

Current gas prices are a result of constant supply and increasing demand, despite increasing prices. The American consumer is causing the price to rise, but I guess it feels good to blame someone else as we waste gas.

Since WWII we have almost always had record debt, the economy grows around it.

You don't know what you're talking about. Carter wasn't even in office when the Arab embargo of the seventy's hit the US.

Nobody is blaming Carter. You're trying to play poker with a half a deck with your silly analogies. Go read a book or something before you stand up to the big guys ! Where do you get this garbage, dipstick !

I don't stop at being upset with Carter over oil. I lay the Islamoterrorist problem squarely at his feet. I was in the military while he was Joke in Chief.

I would say worse. We have had times in the 70's and 80's when we were at war, and fuel prices were high, and unemployment was high. But in the past, problems have been isolated to manufacturing. The problems we are seeing today are more widespread. Bankers, lawyers, auto workers, construction workers, coffeehouse baristas, firemen, policeman, bank tellers, dog groomers....everybody is affected by this. In the past, the answer to a sagging economy was to ramp up manufacturing. Since we don't produce anything in the US anymore, except debt, it is not possible to ramp up production of anything. This is why the government is stepping in, because the private sector has failed. Doing nothing, and reminiscing about the good ol days is not going to fix these problems. Doing nothing will cause a lot of people to go from the penthouse to the sh*thouse in a blink of an eye. It is already happening, and it is not just happening to the middle class. A lot of rich people are losing their cash, and they don't know how to deal with that. When times are tough, rich people hold on to their money. Don't look for them to bail us out.
