After all if we outlaw grenades then only criminals will carry grenades. Grenades are an armament and the second amendment guarantees our right to own them. If school teachers were armed with grenades there would be no school grenading! Sure they might go off accidentally sometimes and people could use them inappropriately when they're under duress to commit suicide or kill family members but it's our constitutional right! Should we all write our congressman and demand grenades?

And what about nukes? Shouldn't we be allowed to have nukes? And dirty bombs? and ICBMs? And rocket launchers?

Oh wait, grenades are outlawed and guess what... criminals DON'T have grenades... What a concept!

Get it?

Yes I'm being sarcastic. I've yet to see a response that gives me a good reason why a person shouldn't be allowed to carry grenades using the SAME logic that the gun crowd uses.

To ganjaman; nice diatribe but I asked the question and you still didn't answer it. Are you a politician by any chance?

To deadmanwalking; You don't have to know how ANY of those weapons work to follow the logic. Sorry you weren't able to...

Good point. Additionally, if the primary purpose of the 2nd amendment was to allow the citizenry to defend itself from a tyrannical government, then shouldn't all Americans be allowed to possess the same weapons and equipment as the military? How can that right be infringed?

That would include nukes, tanks, heavy artillery, gunships, and aircraft. Wouldn't it? Else, a citizens' Militia, no matter how well regulated, wouldn't stand a chance in a rebellion to ensure the security of a free State against the US military.

I vote GangaMan for Best Answer. Yes I read the whole thing. Very interesting perspective. I'm against gun control. I am also against my fellow Americans being irresponsible. People need to quit jumping on every wagon that comes to town just to get attention. The next time you decide to join a cause, make sure you have studied it thoroughly from a multitude of perspectives. As for your question. Why do police carry guns and not grenades? Because the risk of killing innocent people is too high. With a gun you can direct a projectile in a specific direction. With a grenade... It goes everywhere.

What about rocks and big sticks? If there weren't any man made weapons I'm sure we could figure out another way to kill each other. That's been going on since way way before civilization. I can see the next big Democratic push after they take our guns away. Rid the nation of rocks, sticks, heavy stuff, things that are hard, things that are pointy, places where the water is more than 1/2 inch deep, places where one place is more than one foot higher than another place, and then we are going to cover everything with pillows just so nobody gets hurt when someone gets mad. Wait bad idea. You can suffocate someone with a pillow! We better get rid of those as well. Congratulations! You have now created an environment where it is uncomfortable to sleep!

Grenades are not the same thing as guns. I believe you should be able to have a rifle or two for sport and self protection also a shot gun and maybe even a hand gun or two but you don't need an UZI or AK467, or anything like a bomb, which would include a grenade. To think you are allowed such things under the Constitution is stupid. The founding fathers did not expect people to have canons in their front yards nor bombs to burst in air. That is for military not private citizens.

By the way I am no gun nut, Con, Republican or NRA member. I do have common sense, thus I find it okay for one to own fire arms but not grenades etc as mentioned.

...

First of all, in some of the states, grenades are classified as Class III weapons (full-auto, silencers...etc), which can be sold to lawful citizens. That is, in order to own any Class III weapons, you will have to pass the background check by FBI first.

However, each grenade is individually registered, if you happen to use any one of them (for any reason), you will have to report to the FBI instantly. There are also a lot of attachments (aka: responsibilities) once you become a Class III weapon owner.

If you never used (or seen) any grenade before, it is certainly not a good idea to have one. It may be our constitutional rights to arm ourselves, however, the damage caused by mis-used grenade is far more serious than guns or other weapons.

Therefore, it should be highly restricted.

Nukes... Do you even know how nuclear weapons works?

EDIT:

Obviously you don't know how grenades work. Not to mention you purposely not to see the difference between a gun ownership and a grenade ownership.

Not to mention you also failed to know that one can legally own a grenade in some states...

You are only making pro-gun-control people looking really bad now.

You can get grenades, mines, and even anti-tank missiles. You need a Destructive Device Permit. This isn't easy to obtain for obvious reasons though, and these permits are provided principally so that companies can build weapons for our military.

On the other hand you cannot get a nuclear weapon or anything classified as a weapon of mass destruction.

When grenades are outlawed, only outlaws will have grenades.

You wanted the same logic the gun folks use.

Criminals have never used explosive devices in the commission of a crime? Think again.

There are instructions all over the internet on how to make explosive devices, if a criminal wants one all they have to do is build it.

Ridiculous questions like these I feel lesson the value of decent debates in these forums. Why not waste everyones time and ask 'Should every American be allowed to carry fruit baskets?'
