My mother gave me an odd name. For the sake of the child, I don't recommend it.

Anything you have to explain to people to pronounce in generally not a good choice. Save it for a middle name. Try Penelope Saoirse. Savannah is pretty popular, that's why I would go with Penelope, plus I really like that name.

Oh man. Speaking as a 19 year old Irish girl named Sorcha, I am very aware of constantly having one's name mispronounced. I need to correct you first and foremost though,as Sorcha is not in any way Anglicised. It is an Irish name meaning "bright/radiant one", and, though commonly said to be "the Irish for Sarah", it is not as Sarah was never in fact translated from English. Saoirse, the word for "freedom" in Irish isn't actually a commonly mispronounced name at all, unlike Sorcha. However, I appreciate that in the U.S. it would be seldom heard of and thus your child would have to set people right. But, you know, if you like a name enough, and Saoirse is such a beautiful name, go for it. I like having an unusual name. And hey, at least it makes people take an interest haha!

Gailic names are very hard for people to pronounce. Just ask any girl named Siobhan (shavan). Saoirse is pretty though. A more common name with the same cadence is Deirdre.

It is very difficult to understand, and it is very frustrating when people are ALWAYS screwing up your name (people do it all the time with my last name). I would go with Sasha. It sounds a lot like what you already had in mind. Though, what you have there does seem like such a beautiful name, I love the way it's spelled, but it is just to difficult to pronounce.

I like it. It is very original. My suggestion would be to take one of the more common names and make it her middle name, if she has too many problems or decides it's a hassle, then she can use the middle name. I also agree about mabey angelicanizing it a little more. It would be hard for a teacher to pronounce it. Congrats!! and good luck with any name you choose.

it sort of feels Irish/gaelic or Welsh. what's it? i admire the sound of it. I see what you propose regarding the spelling. in case you're waiting to tutor the persons on your worldwide regarding the spelling consistently/fortunately for the 1st few years then i think of the call will improve on people. in case you reside in Wales or the place it relatively is elementary I see no subject in any respect. i like it.

I love that name, but it would be kinda difficult for most Americans to pronounce it. Some suggestions are:
Boys: David, Andrew, Austin, Kevin
Girls: Diana, Joanna, Mandy, Michelle, Rachel, Grace, Lillian
