Anyone ever had their finger go numb for days after carrying heavy plastic grocery bags? I live on the top floor of a place with no elevator...which means trying to carry as many grocery bags as possible with each trip...However, that was Saturday, and the end of my middle finger is STILL oddly & mildly numb... Anyone ever experienced this? Doctors know anything about it?

the heavy weight placed a burden on the nerves and muscles in your fingers. The circulation was also temporarily cut off by the bags. You need to increase the circulation. I recommend you place your hands in semi hot water for fifteen minutes. Wait ten minutes. Then apply an ice pack for five minutes. This is going to get the circulation going . If this does not go away in a few days see your medical doctor.

The plastic acts as a ligature restricting blood flow and nerve signals. The negative results will increase as the bag increases in weight and the thinner the area where it applies pressure against your fingers.

If you spread out the surface area the pressure will lessen. Try wearing gloves next time so the handles don't "cut" into your hands/fingers so much.

It sounds like you may have Carpal Tunnel. It can make you have pains in your arms to your wrists. It can make your hand go numb too. You need to go to a Dr and let them test you to see what it is before it gets worse.

Did this ever get better? If so, what did you end up doing? This happened to me tonight.
