Last week after visiting Best Buy, after watching a salesman try to sell anti-software to a customer, it brought me up questions. So the customer is purchasing a new computer, and the salesperson tries to sell anti-software along with the computer. He elaborates on how it can protect the computer from spy ware and viruses. Unfortunately, she buys into his brainwashing pitch. In the end, she buys it.
We all know spy ware and viruses are bad for our computers. However, when a anti-virus company creates a program to counter it, the cycle continues. Hackers create better viruses that surpass the anti-virus software. Soon the anti-virus companies discover it, then it goes on and on. The need for people to protect their computers can be costly. This can also mean companies are making millions on anti virus products. I want to read what everyone thinks about this.

Seriously, what is wrong with any company making a profit for their service (in this case, anti-malware) that it provides? Just because a corporation provides a solution to a persons misfortune does not make the act of turning a profit immoral.
Perhaps you would be happier in a Utopian socialist wonderland?
Cuba comes to mind.

Well if you buy from large companies you already have an antivirus preinstalled on the system, in case the operating system that comes with it is windows.
It's interesting why do you consider this a bad thing. I mean for most of the users it's really great to have everything preinstalled and use it from day 1 without having to do anything!
This is the main use for a commercial computer and that's why, well mostly why Microsoft is the leader for desktop PC software.
For some I know it's annoying... I would want something like ok, what operating system do you want to have? Do you also want antivirus protection? If so from what company. And so on. This is called freedom... And freedom not for let's say building myself a pc but for choosing what do I want to install on it, because I still consider software an add-on which nobody can force me to install.
Now this goes for the hardware too. Do you know what hardware they are using when building the computer you've asked for? This doesn't mean that everyone should build their pc themselves because nobody can build their own car for example... But some do, so I'm coming back to what I've said before. They should let the customers decide what to buy, starting from what components to install (or using prebuild solutions) to choosing the software.

Politics does not play any part in why I purchase my antivirus from a Communist Country. I use state of the art technology from mainland China. (Bejing, China).
The Govt., of China does not believe in the idea that one must pay an annual fee for all new updates and all new versions. Their thinking as always been that you pay a one time fee for life of $29.99 and you get automatic updates, all new versions, background scanner and a "dynamic defense system, that catches, all "zero day attacks".

You basically have no other choice besides getting an anti-virus program if you are going to use the internet and download files.
Anti-virus programs are better then nothing.

Anti-virus is good, you don't even have to pay for it.
Without it, viruses would control our lives.
Get AVG Free, it's free antivitus protection ranked better than Microsoft's.

Possible. If you get a new virus the company which finds the solution quickest could be the one who made it in the first place.

It has occurred to me that people could be on the payroll clandestinely to create viruses. I have no proof on this, Bill Gates has made enough enemies to ensure that plenty of viruses get written.
