I just got my birth control pills. I've never been on any type before. Today my doctor gave me Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. I noticed that you could choose whether you wanted to do the Sunday day or day 1. I'm a little bit confused on why you have to choose between two.. Is one better? Is one suppose to do more? Anyone try the sunday or day 1 and could tell me what the actual difference is because day 1 sounds the easiest and if thats so why have the sunday one?

So if I take the Sunday.. what do I exactly do? I'm so confused, lol. I've read the directions over and over and I'm just trying not to **** this up. If I decide to take the Sunday start and my period starts Monday.. I take the pill that upcoming sunday? And if thats true.. what if my period is over by the time that sunday comes up, do I still take it?

Yeah, to me the Day 1 seems the easiest to do and to remember. I don't think I could remember taking the pill on a sunday if my period started a few days ago. I think I'm going to do the Day 1. But I would love to hear from the people who have done Day 1 while this question is still on the boards!!!

You can do either, my doctor always recommended I do Sunday starts.
Basically lets say you start your period on Wednesday, you start the pill on the next Sunday. If you start your period on Sunday, start taking the pill that day. I'm not sure why there is the Sunday method, I am assuming that its because its easier to keep track starting at the "beginning" of the week.
You can just do whatever is easiest for you.

Good Luck

I found this on the Tri-Cyclen Lo web site (I'm thinking about using it too).

Sunday Start
Take the first "active"* white pill of the first pack on the Sunday after your period starts-even if you are still bleeding. If your period begins on a Sunday, start your pack on the same day.

Use a backup method (such as condoms or spermicide) if you have sex any time from the Sunday you start your first pack to the next Sunday (one week).

Day 1 Start
Take the first active white pill of the first pack within 24 hours of starting your period.

You will not need to use a backup method of birth control because you are starting the Pill at the beginning of your period.

In other words, if you choose the Sunday start you will need a back-up method of birth control for the first week that you are on the pill. Day 1 start you are automatically protected.

I do the Sunday start - and yes, even if you are done with your period by the time Sunday rolls around, you start taking the pill then. It's easier to follow the pills on a Sunday start, then if you ever need to double check if you took your pill that day, you only have to match up the day of the week with your pill pack and not how many days since you started your period. Good luck!

My doctor always reccomends doing the sunday one...it is just easier to keep track of. take it the sunday after you start your period, I wouldn't take it any other way, It keeps me more on a regular sched.
