Well, I just started birth control this month to help regulate and now I'm on the week that I'm supposed to have my "period". I know 99% of all the details about the pill that I should know, but I have one question:

Is the blood that's coming out supposed to be brown/dark brown/black? It has it's moments where it's pinkish, but for the majority of this week, it's been dark brown/almost black. I'm on day 4 of the placebo week. Any suggestions/ comments/ reassurence?

Thanks in advance!!

Tahnks for all the info Tash, but it's not just when the blood is hitting my pan that it's brown. I play sports too so I use tampons instead of pads cause it's more comfortable for me, but when I take it out, (yes TMI, sorry gals) It's the same color it could be if i was wearing a pad. is that for the same reason?

Thanks

Firstly...I love your little "..." around the word period....are you one of the smart ones who figured out it isnt actually a period when you are on the pill? Most women dont know this.
No peoples...dont start yelling at me just yet! The pill period is not a period...see what the Mayo Clinic has to say about it if you dont believe me! They are a worldwidely respected medical clinic.

Sooo...as you most likely already know, the pill reduces the amount of bleeding and cramping you get when you get your "period". And you may have noticed that blood goes brown when it gets old and...dead I guess.
The speed at which you bleed when having a period varies according to how much your uterus is actually bleeding and how much it is cramping, as cramps push the blood out.
So youre not bleeding as much as you normally would and your uterus isnt contracting as strongly. This means the blood takes a little more time to come out, and during this extra time it discolors and goes brown. Rather alarming if it hasnt happened to you before, but nothing to worry about unless it is happening when your "period" isnt due (but remember, spotting can be expected for the first few months)
Well I hope I cleared that up for you! Best of luck.

EDIT: Yes it is for the same reason...I should have explained that I meant it takes longer for it to come out of the cervix and go into your vagina...with reduced cramping and bleeding, it sits in your uterus and cervix for longer, its in there that it goes brown, not actually in your vagina. So using tampons or pads wouldnt make a difference.
Sorry for not 'splaining that bit

the opportunities are on your favor.. although the pullout technique is by no ability a sturdy thanks to apply. i'm on the mini pill also.. the only stated as Loestrin 24f. i don't have problems with it.. yet I by no ability get my era both. i'm also breastfeeding, my son is 4.5 months, and frequently i ask your self if i'd be pregnant and by no ability recognize it, because I by no ability have my era. I heard it truly is regularly occurring for a breastfeeding mom although. you're a lot less fertile via hormones are lacking via breastfeeding, for this reason, why some do not get a era the entire time they are breastfeeding. astounding needs!

Sometimes the blood is darker then other times. Sometimes there is old blood and that often comes out brown or almost black. If you are really concerned, than speak to your doctor, but that is normal if you ask me.

good luck!

Brown blood is just the old blood. Old blood is normal. I used to have it as part of my periods even before I ever went on the pill.

Yeah, your period can definitely change a lot on the pill. Coming out darker might be part of it getting lighter, or clotting more, but it's definitely a normal and common color, so don't worry!
