or worse, both?

I think both in a way. Obviously, some celebrities do need rehab. I think in one way or another, all of these rehab stars need help. Rehab is just the cool thing to do now. I think that their "people" send them there, and then milk it to their camp's advantage. Although, it seems like with some stars, substance abuse is not the real problem. It is their personalities and behaviors they've developed by being in the spotlight. They are constantly told "yes." I think these people need therapy more than "rehab"--which we all know that the word "retreat" is more accurate for where they go.

I don't think they're really PR stunts. I think its a genuine cry for help. These "stars" have made so much money and have been given virtually anything they want. No one has drawn the line for them anytime, anywhere, and so they haven't had to figure out what it's like to actually live in the real world (even the ones who lived in the Real World suite in Las Vegas).

What Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and the like need is someone to lay down the law, and give them some serious consequences for their actions when they cross the line.

Just as we have to teach our children to say "NO" to drugs and drinking, you would think these stars would know the difference. They have seen what the older generation had to go thru and they hear how some of them are dying. Yet, they go ahead and ruin their lives and have absolutely too much money and peer pressure. They have to keep up with the "Hiltons". Some of these are "publicity stunts" - "Hilton for example". This is not news - the media just needs to stop publicizing their lives 24/7 - because most of the public would rather hear good news like - "the war in Iraq is over" and all of our soldiers are coming home. .

PR Stunt completely. I hope they all realize that we aren't falling for it.

It's completely ridiculous and is a slap in the face to the people who are in rehab for real reasons and want to get help.

could be both: real rehab cases exploited for PR. Trying to solve a real problem and making more money in the process. Hitting two birds with one stone.
But i do hope it does not get out of hand.

I don't think it's for PR , I think it is very sad...what kind of example are they setting for teens or anyone else for that matter.. I hate the way they blame the stress of being a celeberity on their problems. I think it has really gotten out of hand. I really wish they would clean up their act.

if it is just a pr stunt its a bad bad one. as for some of them it may be questionable, but for the ones facing jail and **** its not.

I take it you've seen "Wag the Dog"?

If so, hats off to thoughtful intelligence.

If not, do. Your Q. leads one to think you're
ready for owning it and several viewings.
