With my OB/GYN's office, I'm usually already undressed and ready for her when she comes in to start examining me. But for those that do leave the room while the patient is getting undressed it's to give them a bit of privacy because some are not comfortable with getting undressed in front of others.

well, i would say it's because they are not there to watch u get undressed. They are there to focus on one thing. No need to make any patients feel uncomfortable. Some women are a bit edgy when it comes to having someone watching them undress.

It gives you a sense of control and preserves as much dignity as possible under the circumstances. I would prefer that to having them stand there and watch me strip down.

Plus, they can go see another patient while you are getting undressed and they don't have to just stand there wasting time.

They are there to look and see if everything is normal, not to check you out getting dressed.
