i have two hard drives 1 IDE and other SATA. i have installed Linux redhat on the IDE drive and Windows xp sp2 on sata drive. the linux does not recognize sata drive. i dont get dual boot screen. i have go to set-up during restart or start of system and press F8 to select boot device and got to Linux. my system by default goes to WIndows Xp. how can i make the system to list both operating system on boot screen of my computer

What version of Red Hat are you using? Most modern Linux distributions recognise SATA. You may just need to tweak the configuration.

To get the boot selection screen you need to install a bootloader (LILO or GRUB) on the primary master drive.

Here is what you do. turn your system into a virtual system.. dual boot system is now old hat stuff.

If your going to go Linux good for you. your going to learn new things every day. all for FREE

Red Hat is not the best for open source linux support... try ubuntu it is the best and easiest to learn, and the support is good too

to learn about virtual system join linux magazine online. (free) there is free software you can download, that will allow you to run linux and windows at the sometime.

go to linux mag website and look down the right hand side for virtualization click on that

Only linux distros that have kernel 2.6 and above, can recognize SATA drive.
if you like Redhat and persist to use distros like Redhat ,
try Fedora core , it helps you.
