Why were they "booing" Miss USA? I felt terrible when she took that fall and then she was booed after wards. It made me kind of angry. Does anyone know why they were being mean to her?

Hello! Hola!

First of all sorry if my english is not very good.

The relation between USA and Mexico is not exactly the best right now.

I'm mexican, i was there, i'm not booed Rachel (Miss USA) and i'm not agree with that nasty reaction, but....

You have to see the other side of the coin, i'm not to waist my answer speaking about the madness of some policies of the american govement, but even if you are agree or not, you need to believe that here are many people (Who are not illegals, who live in Mexico and work in Mexico) very upset about it.

I'll try to explain you what happen:

If you watch the entire event, you can see that the mexican audience were very warm with Rachel at the almost half of the competition.
The spark wich began the fire was the fact that Rachel fell and got into the TOP 5, and Miss Mexico didn't.
Then... Rachel was no more Rachel Smith, she was Miss USA... She represent USA, and not the good side of the United States, then the people got mad and booed.

I was there that night, and believe me not all the mexicans boo her (including me) What happen next? Well if you watch a video of that moment at the end of her answer Rachel said in spanish: Buenas noches Mexico, Muchas Gracias (Good night Mexico thank you very much) The (mexican) people then, remain who is this girl and then they began to applaud her.

Source(s):

I just want to explain in words of some one who really was there, why this infamous incident happen.

I'm disagree totally this action of my compatriots BUT, unfortunly this is a reflection of the bad way of our politics (at the both sides of the border) handle the problem of the immigration.

Rachel is OK now, she understood what happen and why.
She is a great girl, intelligent and sweet

I don't usually watch it. But, that said, I happened to catch the end of it last night (or early this morning, Belgian time) because I couldn't sleep and a Belgian TV station was broadcasting it live (with a male and female Dutch-speaking commentators talking over the English which drives me CRAZY!). I came in just before Miss USA hit the floor and stayed to see who won. So I missed the swimsuit category but always have much preferred the evening gowns. And, was surprised to witness the question/ answer category; is that new?

Mexico should have been in the top 5 not the skinny ugly one from the U.S. All politics of course look at the judges. I won't be watching it again. To top it off the one from Japan won. OMG what dog and the stupid answer to the question she gave. Just crap a whole lot of it.

I heard she was booed because she knocked the girl from Mexico out of the running.

They were booing because of the current immigration issues between the US and Mexico.

They booed her because they are rude and crude. She was representing the Unite States Of America, and they were down on her because of that. They had no reason to do so. She was not one of the country's political leaders. They were just plain rude, crude, and ignorant

lol. It was cuz she should've been voted off, simple as that. Miss Mexico didn't pass to the final 5 because of her. You gotta understand that the falling thing should take points off. Hope that answers your question.

honestly at first i laughed but then when i came back to reality i felt like i was mean. no one should laugh at someone else's expense. including myself. she fell, it happens we are not perfect. plus she was probably nervous.
