Depending on the size of the tank and if its tropical, you could invest in one of the species of Botia all of which eat snails, if you go for clown loach you will need more than 4 as they're sociable shoaling fish. They can grow to about 8/10inch in a captivity.
last resort you can get a proprietary treatment.

Loaches, paradise fish and puffers all eat snails. You can squoosh them against the side and the fish will eat what's left, you can put a small jar or plate in the tank at night with some small amount of meat or piece of food and remove it first thing in the morning right when you turn the lights on, this will catch a lot of the snails. Killing all of them is very diffilcult though it's not that hard to keep them in balance. I've torn down tanks that had snails, set up a completely different tank and boiled everything that was in the initial tank for about 10 minutes and that worked. Good luck.

A good trick to move snails out of a tank with out killing them is getting a small saucer and propping it up upsidedown with a small rock. Underneath it, stick an alagae wafer or a piece of zuchinni underneath it. By the next morning, take out all of the snails underneath it, repeat this every day until you are snailess. That is the humane way. A cruel way in my opinion is by using snail killer chemicals. A less mean way is buy getting a snail eating fish like a skunk botia.

You can get a chemical at your local fish shop that will destroy them, Did you recently add a plant to your tank it might have been on that and the bred and bred and bred until ur tank is over populated, Infutre you should wash live plants, Before you add them,

in fresh water use pakistani loach three cleared my 60 gallon fresh watertank snail problem down to manageable levels stay clear of chemicals.
if brackish use a figure of eight puffer
do not eradicate them from your tank they are useful for algea control and scavengers
if you are fully stocked you could squash them on the glass and your fish will eat them

I agree with Andrew, get Yo-yo (Pakistani) Loaches, they could probably clean your tank out in less than a week. If you have anything larger than 10 gallons, get 3 or more, in 10 gallons, get 2.

you dont say what tank ! so i will presume you have the most common british tank..........the chieftan........so just put the snails under the tracks and crush them they are only small and the tank must weigh 100 ton so i dont see a problem unless they get in the petrol and block the carburretor.......if that happens my mate will strip it down for a tenner. hope that helps and you give me 10 points for best answer !
