I feel this very strong connection when people say: 'Hi Daria'. Or just my name.. It's.. Weird. The world is becoming more personal or impersonal.

I totally agree!! I feel like the world in general is becoming so technology based! Thirty years ago when you got gas, you spoke to someone, handed them the money, etc.. Now you pay at the pump with a credit card and have no contact with any other human being! At one point do we start becoming too relient on not having any contact??
I visit the same gas station 3-4 times a week and have learned the names of all the people who work there. I make it a point to walk in and say "Hello ----" to whoever is there and USE THIER NAME! It takes a mere second to glance down at the person's name tag and just an extra moment to throw it in and the end of your greeting!

Yes, Daria, I feel the same way. Then I print out their avatar and lay it next to me when I go to sleep that night.

It's personal when It's one of my contacts and I usually say hello to them when answering their questions damn those who violate me for chatting it's only polite to say hello right? I feel it's more personal when people say things like okay honey or calm down dear maybe I just seek affection from everyone lol How are you doing today anyway you have been quiet or maybe I was just busy at work today?

It's a symbol of good manners dictated by what you just described (United States).

Hi Idiot just didnt sound as good as "Hi [insert name of target]"

Also, it is a common teaching or sales tactic employed by people that is designed to capture and then maintain your attention. Try it, and you will find that your visiblity in the eyes of the people you are speaking with increases with a little bit of practice

you are so right that happens to me all the time its revealing my social life that i was told to keep secret and by that little imformation someone can find where i live, how old i am and many other things it surprising and it feels like in invasion of personal space.when my friends say my name it lets everyone else know.like one time my friend called my name to make me hurry up and this guy next to me said ''sarah your friend is calling you,you better hurry up''and he said it in a very creeppy way with a creepy smile.although this time i told you my name that was my choice and wasnt a invasion of space.so its ok.but yah it makes me feel wierd when people call my name i open public......

The world is very impersonal...anyways there is one person that has used my fake name when answering my questions and that guy is cool cause of that.

It depends on if I know the person or not. If I know them, I appreciate, if I don't, I ask why they've been stalking me.
But really, if it's maybe someone I like, and they say my name, it does feel personal, like they're trying to connect to me. Just to hear my crush say my name and smile makes me feel good.

It makes me squirm. I know that they are trying to be personal, but it comes across to me as TOO personal and makes me feel uncomfortable. I wouldn't mind a stranger on a bus saying 'Hello", but I sure as hell wouldn't want them sitting on my lap!

Yeah, it feels nice when people say "hi" to me, but it's not as serious as "oh my gosh, that person just said hi to me!" I guess when people say "hi" to you, you feel appreciated (which is what I feel, too).
But usually, when I'm the one saying "hi," it's not such a big deal. I don't say "hi" that much, which is probably why it feels that nice when people do so to me; do you say "hi" to people a lot?
