if you mean that they are determined then the correct answer would be that ants have evolved into a population that is
supported by colonies... Just like bees a ants perform
certain duties to benefit the entire colony as a whole.
If you mean strong as in strength, ants have adapted jointed appendages to live on land just like any other arthropods, this
provides them with more flexibility
(mostly insects also crustaceans such as crab and shrimp)

The atributes that all creatures possess can be attributed to evolution through need. Stronger ants made better workers, queens that produced stronger ants had stronger colonies, and stronger colonies survived where weaker ones did not.
If human beings survived by strength and died out by weakness, than in a thousand generations, humans would be much stronger as well.
