If I was in pain and wanted to die I would want a painless way.

I definitely support an individual person's right to die. I don't think Kevorkian should have ever gone to prison in the first place because he was basically doing these individuals a good and justifiable service because they knew what they wanted - no more pain or suffering for themselves or heartache to their families. I'm sure that many terminally ill patients know they are not the only ones suffering - their friends and families feel the same pain, although not experiencing it personally. I've gone through that road twice - once with my father (Alzheimer's Disease) and once with my brother-in-law (lung cancer). I'm now going down that road a third time - my mother-in-law (whom I am very close to) has terminal siliconosis - a disease similar to black lung, only it comes from directly inhaling silicone found in products over a long period of time (she was a professional make-up artist for celebrities from the '50's through the '70's). She has already lost one lung, and the second is half gone.

But, unfortunately, as long as right-wing 'pro-society' people remain in government, assisted suicide will remain illegal, which is too bad for many of the individuals so despartely wanting to escape their never-ending pain.

If a person has a terminal illness and has nil quality of life and they express very definitely and strongly that they wish to die, I think they should be helped.

This should be legalized with a committee set up to review the request.

If a person has an illness such as ALS where the body becomes totally immobile and you have to be completely dependent on others with no hope of recovery to any degree, then this person has the right to die, if they so wish.

I think that you should have the right to die, if you are terminal or have a condition that is keeping you from having a quality life.

We are more humane to our animals than we are to our family. If we feel our pet is suffering we have the right to have him put to sleep, but if it is your family member you have to watch them suffer. That seems a little off to me.

It should be written in an advanced directive by our loved ones before they reach that point, it should not be left where a family member could just off grandma or grandma because they want the inheritance.

Everyone has a "right to die." Now, if someone has some religious problems with that...it's THEIR problem.

People should read the story of one of our generations great writers, Hunter S. Thompson.

Was he depressed? No doubt, but I think that in many cases, it takes a lot more strength and courage to end your life than most of us have.

If a person is suffering so much in life that death seems like the only solution, then who am I or anyone to argue with them and call them immoral? It should be their choice to check out when they feel that their quality of life is so dismal. Why shouldn't they go painlessly with the use of doctor prescribed and induced sleep?

The Right to Die is an inescapable corrallary to the right to life. If you can't die on your own terms, your right to life is being violated.
