Republicans have a clear vision of the future. Democrats can't even make sense of what's happening today. Republicans make history. Democrats never even learn from history. Let me cite some examples.

Nixon was the first President who could imagine dealing with China. It was his hope that opening up China to the West would be his legacy. Well, China has turned quite capitalist since then, hasn't it?

Reagan saw the USSR not as some invincible Goliath, but as a crumbling old building ready to collapse under the weight of its own inefficiencies. All the economists of the day, Galbraith, Samuelson told Reagan he was crazy. In their "expert" opinion, Russia was in great economic health. Reagan only had to see the pitiful array of goods in a Moscow store to immediately deduce that was not a sign of a healthy economy. While no Liberal could ever conceive of defeating the USSR, Reagan, in the words of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thather "won the Cold War without firing a shot".

Just as Liberals could never conceive of the Berlin wall coming down, they cannot see how planting the seeds of democracy in the Middle East will eventually transform the entire region to be more stable, democratic, and tolerant.

Democrats think every problem can be solved by bigger government. Republicans realize that anything run by the government will cost far more than something done privately (e.g. education), and be far less efficient. I now live in a country with Socialized medicine. If I need an operation, I am getting it done elsewhere! Socialized anything means substandard and third rate. It reminds me of a quote by an ancient Greek philospher (Plato, I think): "That which belongs to everyone is of use to no one".

Republicans support laws which treat everyone fairly and equally. Democrats take a paternalistic attitude that certain groups or minorities are incapable of keeping pace with the rest of society, and therefore need special help. However, this "help" simply keeps them beholden to the government. It is like giving an addict a syringe of cocaine every day; he'll never kick the habit.

Democrats promise to spend money to win elections. When they win, they fund the spending to reward their supporters by taxing "the rich" which, of course, "the rich" pass down to the masses through inflation. Democrats have advocated using the US Military as a tool for imposing democracy on others. Democrats believe government is better, fairer and more benevolent than people so more government is better, always. They believe the more government tells us what is allowed the less they will have to deal with things they do not embrace and that being offended is the worst thing that can happen to any individual cog in their great machine.

Republicans promise cut taxes and spend money to "boost" the economy. When elected they fund the payback to their supporters by borrowing and devaluing our currency. Republicans believe that if enough money is being spent and donated to charity, government has no place in welfare. But now Republicans support minimum wage laws so I guess that distinction is gone.

Republicans have historically ended wars that Democrats started but the Bush family has ended that distinction between them.

Both parties have grown so powerful that the PARTY comes before the country, before the people who join the party and most of all, the PARTY comes way above the individual.

Both parties understand that our economy depends on war abroad.

Both parties understand that they have to BUY their power by promising ever unattainable payback to their supporters.

Both parties are led by people who understand that by the time the folly of their politics is blamed for consequences suffered by their supporters, they will be long retired or moved up the chain to a less vulnerable position.

Both parties know that sooner or later the American people will wake up and reclaim the government of the people, for the people and by the people; not of the Party, by the Party and for the Party.

Good question. I describe myself as (R), but the president's of my lifetime have ran from Truman to present. Since I could vote I started with Nixon in his second term. Then Watergate made me want to puke. Since it has been Carter, Reagan, Bush daddy, Clinton both time's, Gore, and Kerry. That means when you get right down to it, uhhhm let's see. I voted (D) six times and (R) three. To tell the truth, I was most happy as an ordinary American when the (D) were running the show. Everytime the (R) got it, I ended up feeling like freedom had been sold to whoever had the most cash. I still think Eisenhower was the best president of my lifetime. But heck, I was not ten years old then. Ike from what I can see from his speeches was closer to modern (D) than modern (R). So I don't know. I guess I am more of an independent than either, but I sure don't like what the (R) have become.

There are always two parties ; the establishment and the movement. -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today, no. We do not have two parties. We have two minor variations of the same party. Both are establishment. If you pay taxes on a form 1040 without any fancy dividends etc, you and I are unrepresented by these parties. You are an honest working person as am I and these parties are parties of the elite. Just watch what they do and listen to how they excuse themselves from representing you and I. We need a reincarnation of FDR.

With the elected government officials in office now, I see very little difference. Republicans have become democrat-lite.

They love to give money away to everyone but middle class America. The Republicans dole out big bucks to keep their corporate fat cats happy. The Democrats give money to any bleeding heart liberal that has so much as a tooth ache. Half dozen of one and six of the other. If yoyu are middle class, neither gives a flip about you.

Lately there is actually no difference, because both parties are just trying to kick each other on the buts and take the power, not to run a country.I think they do it just for their own personal ego.I guess feeling powerful is a pretty good feeling if it cause thousands of people to be killed, because of it.

They differ mainly in the rhetoric they use to get votes. Democrats favor leftist, multicultural, and secular rhetoric; Republicans favor nativist, christian, and security rhetoric.
