It's rewarding law breakers! Furthermore, it's not fair to those that respect America enough to go through the legal process to become citizens.

"you hate or love the new immigration bill? " Neither.Ambivalent . It, and the debate about it are probably overkill. (As usual)The current problems are localized , the benefits (yes , overall, economically esp, it's a benefit) are more widespread. Solutions that help local and state governments , where needed would have been better.
In NY , after Sept. 11th, the state started verifying information on everyone that had any dealings with the state*, mostly license & registration renewals. The end result was a lot of illegals , especially the Irish ( yes, that was the largest group , as far as anyone can tell) deciding to go home . You're saying , "huh"? Contrary to much of the blatherers arguments, most illegals get by on fake SS #s. They DO pay taxes , like the rest of us . ~ $7Bill/yr in Soc.Sec., which they'll never collect . . If we ever managed to actually get all or most, we'd have to come up with more $, to replace them.
Given that SOMETHING was going to happen , it's probably best we can get. I think the time to become a citizen is way too long 13-17 yrs , depend on what gets through . Destroys hope. I want them onboard , & part of "us" ASAP. That way they have a vested interest in the country & it's well-being. Guest-worker program ? Uneasy . Don't want a bunch of second-class, non-citizens , here for long periods. I think Fareed Zakaria ( reporter/columnist/ citizen & former immigrant ) might be right , & hope it doesn't come to pass , as he suggests. His opinion was that we do immigration better than anyone else in the world , & might be ruining that, & setting up something like France & Germany ( Australia?) with similar results .
* My registration was late, even though I paid 6 weeks ahead of time. Finally , it came a week before the old one expired . NOPE! "Our computer can't verify your SS# . Please call this #." I did , gave all my info, & the same computer verified my SS# ! "Huh???? " I think there never was a problem . Did that to everybody .Whoever didn't call was probably fake & an illegal , & they investigated those. I. e. , the illegals self-selected themselves for investigation. ;D

It does TWO things that are wrong.
It gives amnesty.
Because amnesty is implicit in NOT enforcing existing laws.
It tell illegals the U.S. has wimped out again!
Second, it fails to address the true issue. It makes no issue of prosecuting those who HIRE the illegals and promote their violations of our laws.
The Eisenhower administration went after those hiring the illegals and the jobs dried up. The illegals went home because there were no jobs for them.
That single action brought about the lowest incidence of illegal immigration in the history of the U.S.
That trend continued until the Johnson administration changed the policy.
History cannot be denied.
You can add to that the prediction that the Bill, if passed in its current form, will bring 100 million immigrants into the U.S. over the next two decades resulting in lowering of wages and an increase in the social security deficit of 2.4 TRILLION dollars, according to the calculations of the American Heritage Foundation.

Because it makes illegals, all illegals past and present immediately legal as soon as it's signed into law. It also legalizes any FUTURE illegals. These people are undocumented. How are you going to prove that they weren't in the country as of a certain date? You can't. So bienvenudos amigos!
As for the fence? That's a white elephant too. In order for it to work we'll have to build it along the Mexican border and along the coasts. And, to make it fair and seem not to discriminate, we'll also have to build one along the Canadian border. In the end, we'll have to fence in the entire country. Period. And yet, even if we did that, it wouldn't work. Mohammad is flying into Laguardia and Dulles Airports on a first class ticket.
Then too, did you know that the Mexicans are dismantling sections of the fence every day? Yep. And because it's a fence, we can't get over there to stop them. Estimates are that it'll cost about a million dollars a year to maintain each MILE. Do the math.
Solution: (Because if you can't provide a viable alternative, all your dissent is simply bitching...) Fine the OWNERS of businesses $5,000 for each illegal found to be in their employment. You don't have to get them all. Employers won't want to take the chance. Remember, this is a money issue to them. No jobs? No reason to make the trip north. And they'll GO HOME. Problem solved and businesses that hire illegals are paying for the enforcement.

The immigration bill is a joke. George Bush thinks he can trick the Mexicans back over the border.
The bill would give temporary legal status to millions of unlawful immigrants, provided they came forward, paid a fine and underwent criminal background checks. To apply for a green card, they would have to pay another fine, learn English, return to their home country and wait in line.
I got news Chimpster. Mexicans know once they go back that they will be denied the green card application. Besides, we need Mexicans and I admire their willingness to do whatever it takes to make a living.

I'm disgusted with Bush and Congress. The bill rewards those who have invaded the United States and invites millions more to join the invasion force that is trying to "reconquer" America as if it was theirs to start with. Helping those who are invading America is treason. The American people will not tolerate this. We are being pushed too far, and millions of us will act if necessary to protect our country from this or any other invasion.

I disagree with it because: It allows illegal criminals to pay a $5000 fine and be pardoned. That privilege is not given to incarcerated American citizens, not even the non-violent ones. Our current immigration laws would work if somebody would actually enforce them. Mexicans need to march for change in their own country instead of coming here and trying to change ours.

No one invites the burglars in for dinner & to take whatever they want.
The sheer cost of taking care of that number of people will rocket local taxes.
Many people are legally waiting to be citizens & I detest
line jumpers.
It will change the entire racial makeup. African Americans will be smaller than Hispanics. Gives too much political influence to people who hate the USA

I dislike the bill. Politicians seem to be using it to get away from the tough job of securing our borders. It looks like obfuscation, on their part, to me.
